MA. MONINA D. VELASCO

Atty. Ma. Monina “Monette” D. Velasco is a commercial and tax lawyer who has been a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines since 2017.

Prior to joining the Carpo Law & Associates, Monina was a Senior Associate in Sycip, Gorres, Velayo & Co. (“SGV”) under Business Tax Services Group. At SGV, she assisted clients with domestic corporate income tax, business tax and other local tax advisory matters. Also, she assisted clients in liaising with the tax authorities for requests for rulings or opinions from the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Department of Finance and in handling controversies and disputes arising from tax assessments. Lastly, her work in SGV allowed her to provide advisory services to clients with regard to the most cost and tax-effective vehicle/ structure for Philippines inbound and outbound investments.

Monina was a working student during her law school days. She was a Trust Marketing Officer of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (“RCBC”) for six (6) years. Her work at RCBC allowed her to have extensive experience and knowledge in handling her clients’ requirements involving commercial law and transactions, particularly, banking, credit transactions, trust and agency arrangements (i.e., personal and institutional trusts, escrows, mortgage trust indentures). Her experience and knowledge were further enhanced after she finished a one-year course on Trust Operations and Investment Management in the Asian Institute of Management (“AIM”). Also, she received her Certification as Investment Company Representative from the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) and as Trust Fund practitioner from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (“BSP”).

She obtained her Bachelor of Laws from Arellano University School of Law where she graduated as a Member of the Order of the Flaming Arrows, the official Dean’s List of the school. Prior thereto, she graduated Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines – Diliman with a degree in Economics.

On November 1, 2021, Atty. Monette was promoted as the newest Jr. Partner of Carpo Law and Associates, allowing her to fully extend and maximize her practice to serve our clients with the utmost expertise in her field.
